My life with borderline personality disorder

The Start

Up until recently I always believed that I had a very resistant type of depression. One that made me irrationally angry and gave me horrible mood swings. One that made me want to hurt myself or others and gave me horrible abandonment issues.

Borderline personality disorder, or BPD, is a very difficult disorder to diagnose. It is characterized by many symptoms that are also associated with other mental illnesses. Similarly to my case, many people go years before knowing they have BPD because of misdiagnosis.

My new diagnosis has been an eye opening and earth shattering experience. From going from trying to find the right medication combination to starting an intensive type of therapy called DBT, I wanted to be as transparent as I could.

My hope is that my transparency encourages others to look at getting help to improve their mental health and to show people they are not alone.
